Cyber Mitra cell launched to assist cybercrime victims, says CP Sajjanar
Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner C. V. Anand Sajjanar on Friday launched the Cyber Mitra (C-Mitra) cell. He said the initiative is the first of its kind in the country and aims to offer quick and hassle-free help to cybercrime victims.
Cyber Mitra cell launched at CCS
Sajjanar inaugurated the Cyber Mitra cell under the Hyderabad Police at the Central Crime Station (CCS) office in Basheer Bagh. He noted that cyber crimes are increasing rapidly. In particular, he cited OTP frauds, digital arrest scams, and online trading frauds as major threats.
Moreover, he said many victims struggle after filing complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or calling the 1930 helpline. As a result, several complainants abandon cases midway. He added that senior citizens and working professionals often face time pressure or social hesitation.
Virtual complaint and FIR process
Explaining the initiative further, Sajjanar said Cyber Mitra allows police to reach victims virtually. Now, victims can complete the entire process from home. This includes complaint filing and FIR registration.
Under the system, Cyber Mitra staff will contact victims directly by phone. They will collect complaint details and request documents if needed. Victims can send documents by post or drop them at a designated box.
After this, the Cyber Mitra cell will register a zero FIR. It will then forward the case to the concerned police station.
Subsequently, the local police station will register the FIR within 24 hours. It will also provide a copy to the victim. Therefore, the system will significantly reduce delays and speed up investigations.
Senior officers attend launch
Several senior officers attended the programme. These included Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Srinivasulu and Deputy Commissioners of Police Aravind Babu, Apoorva Rao, Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, Kare Kiran Prabhakar, Rupesh, and Venkateshwarlu. Cyber Crimes ACP Shivamaruthi and other officials were also present.
