Cold wave to persist till Sankranti as temperatures drop to single digits
Hyderabad: A cold wave intensified across Telangana over the past few days. Biting winds and dense fog caused widespread discomfort during morning and evening hours. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre reported the conditions on Sunday.
According to the weather office, cold conditions worsened after a severe cyclonic system crossed the Bay of Bengal coast. As a result, minimum temperatures dropped to single digits in 10 districts. Authorities then issued an orange alert for the affected regions.
Meanwhile, the weather centre said the cold wave will likely continue until the Sankranti festival. Night temperatures may stay 2 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal. In addition, dense fog may persist at isolated locations.
On Saturday night and early Sunday, several districts recorded sharp temperature drops. Sirpur (U) in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district reported the lowest temperature of 7°C.
Similarly, Bela in Adilabad district also recorded 7°C. Kohir in Sangareddy district saw 8.9°C, while Moinabad in Rangareddy district recorded 9°C.
The weather office further noted that all districts except Wanaparthy and Jogulamba Gadwal reported below-normal minimum temperatures. Because of this, officials warned that fog and cold winds may reduce road visibility, especially during early mornings.
Therefore, authorities advised people to take precautions against the cold. They urged special care for children, the elderly, and those with health conditions. The cold wave may continue over the next few days.
