AI lessons to be introduced in Telangana polytechnic syllabus

AI polytechnic syllabus planned in Telangana from 2026-27

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to introduce Artificial Intelligence modules in diploma courses across all polytechnic colleges in the state.

To begin with, officials said the revised syllabus will move away from certificate-driven learning. Instead, it will focus on employability after diploma completion. As part of this shift, authorities will add AI applications to all 25 branches. These include computer science, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. As a result, every student will gain basic AI knowledge and industrial exposure.

Although officials revised the polytechnic syllabus in 2024, they felt another update was necessary. Rapid technological changes, they said, made the overhaul unavoidable. Therefore, the new framework will align diploma education with current industry needs.

Meanwhile, officials expect to complete syllabus preparation by the end of April. The government will introduce the new AI syllabus for first-year students from the 2026–27 academic year. Later, authorities will extend it to higher years in phases.

Job focus drives syllabus revamp

Notably, officials said they are developing the AI syllabus in collaboration with Tata Technologies. They stressed that the curriculum will remain fully job-oriented. Consequently, the focus will shift from theory-heavy lessons to practical, industry-ready skills, including advanced manufacturing technologies.

In particular, officials plan major changes in the computer science branch. They said revisions could cover up to 30 per cent of the syllabus. In contrast, other branches may see changes ranging from 10 to 20 per cent.

Finally, authorities said they will remove outdated topics to prepare students for future technologies. Through this revamp, the government aims to improve job readiness and placement outcomes across Telangana’s polytechnic institutions.
