Telangana paddy procurement crosses 41.6L tonnes, leads nation

Hyderabad: Telangana has procured 41.6 lakh tonnes of paddy so far this season and paid ₹7,887 crore in Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers within 48 hours, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Wednesday.

During a review meeting, the minister said the drive helped 7.5 lakh farmers across 8,401 purchase centres. The state deployed over 1.26 lakh staff for the exercise. About 45% of them came from IKP women’s self-help groups, showing the government’s push for women’s role in farm activity.

The state also paid a ₹314 crore bonus for the “Sannarakam” variety, further strengthening its farm support system.

Telangana paddy procurement four times higher than Andhra Pradesh

In comparison, Andhra Pradesh procured 11.2 lakh tonnes and paid ₹2,830 crore MSP to 1.7 lakh farmers. Telangana’s procurement volume is almost four times higher, Uttam Kumar Reddy said, stressing the Congress government’s focus on agriculture.

He credited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s farmer-first policies for boosting paddy procurement and ensuring quick payments. He said Telangana was setting national standards in farm governance.
