Task Force nabbed gym trainer for illegal steroid injection sale in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone, arrested a gym trainer for his involvement in an illegal steroid sale and seized banned injection vials and other material worth ₹1.20 lakh, police said on Thursday.
Police identified the accused as Rashid Matlub Khan (40), a resident of Natraj Nagar, Jhirra, who was allegedly procuring and selling steroid injections without a valid licence or medical prescription. He was apprehended near Natraj Nagar following a credible tip-off.
During the operation, police seized 100 bottles of Mephentermine Sulphate injections of 30 mg each and a Vivo Y28E mobile phone used for illegal transactions. Officials said the accused targeted youth seeking rapid muscle growth and sold the injections at inflated prices.
Police said Rashid Matlub Khan was also absconding in Crime No. 102/2026 registered at Attapur police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was previously involved in multiple cases registered at Abids Road and Tappachabutra police stations.
Illegal steroid sale endangered youth health, police said
According to investigators, the accused turned to illegal steroid sale due to financial difficulties after working as a gym trainer. During interrogation, he revealed that he had procured the steroid injections through an online marketplace from Surat and received them via courier in his wife’s name, Farzana Begum.
Police said steroid injections were currently in high demand, especially among young people seeking quick physical transformation and for conditions such as low blood pressure. Officials warned that misuse often led to addiction and serious health complications.
By selling the injections without authorisation or a doctor’s prescription, the accused endangered public health and violated statutory provisions, police said. Consumers who had purchased the steroids were counselled and advised to consult qualified medical practitioners.
The arrest was carried out under the supervision of Inspector Ch. Yadender and Sub-Inspector Md. Jahed of the West Zone Task Force, along with their staff. Police said strict action would continue against those involved in illegal drug distribution.
