National Road Safety Month begins at Yadagirigutta in Telangana
Hyderabad: National Road Safety Month 2026 began on Wednesday at Yadagirigutta in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched the official poster and called for collective responsibility to reduce road accidents.
While addressing the gathering, the minister said the National Road Safety awareness drive would run for one month across Telangana. He urged public representatives, officials, and citizens to actively join awareness programmes. He also stressed the need to strictly follow traffic rules.
Meanwhile, Government Whip Birla Ilaiah, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District Collector Hanumanth Rao, and senior transport department officials attended the programme.
Highlighting preventive measures, Ponnam Prabhakar said the state government is working closely with the education department to instil road safety habits among students. As part of this effort, students across Telangana will collect written undertakings from their parents. These undertakings will pledge compliance with traffic rules.
National Road Safety drive to involve schools and citizens
Additionally, the minister said authorities will encourage every school in Telangana to form a road safety club. He explained that the initiative aims to build lifelong awareness among students. In the long run, the government hopes this approach will create safer road users.
Referring to recent police briefings, the minister pointed out that road accidents account for a large number of deaths in the state. Therefore, he appealed to the people of Telangana to obey traffic regulations and give priority to safety.
Finally, officials said the month-long programme will include awareness sessions, public outreach, and inter-departmental coordination. Through these measures, the government aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities across Telangana.
