Mahalakshmi Scheme: RTC JAC Welcomes Free Bus Pass Cards

Mahalakshmi Scheme

Hyderabad: The RTC Joint Action Committee (JAC) welcomed the decision to issue free bus pass cards to women passengers instead of zero tickets in RTC buses under the Mahalakshmi Scheme. Officials took the decision at an RTC review meeting held on Sunday, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.

RTC JAC said the Mahalakshmi Scheme increased congestion in RTC buses. The heavy rush created confusion for conductors while issuing zero tickets to women passengers.

Mahalakshmi Scheme decision reduces burden on conductors

Due to the confusion, some conductors mistakenly issued zero tickets to male passengers. In several cases, authorities took disciplinary action, including dismissal from service. To prevent such incidents, the JAC demanded the introduction of free bus pass cards for women.

The JAC said it had already informed the government and RTC management about the issue. During a meeting with the Transport Minister on May 6, the committee raised the concern and received a positive response. The RTC JAC welcomed the final decision, stating that it will improve bus operations and reduce confusion among staff.
