Lalaguda police arrest three-member robbery gang in East Marredpally case
Hyderabad: Lalaguda police, in a joint operation with the Commissioner’s Task Force of Secunderabad Zone, arrested three members of a robbery gang on January 27, 2026, in connection with a violent house robbery at East Marredpally, police said.
The arrests were made in Cr.No.17/2026 registered under Section 309 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Lalaguda police station. The accused had allegedly confined and assaulted a woman before robbing gold ornaments weighing about nine tolas from her residence at Arihant Sadan Apartment.
The arrested accused were identified as Gurrappagari Mahesh, 36, a labourer from Cheekirevulapalle village in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh, Chinnakotla Pavan Kumar alias Bavanna, 48, a cement worker from the same village, and Geeju Surendra, 37, an unemployed resident of Cheekirevulapalle.
Police said the accused were apprehended in the early hours near Secunderabad Railway Station while in possession of the robbed property.
Investigators recovered gold ornaments weighing 28.8 grams, including a gold beaded chain, a finger ring and a bangle, along with two mobile phones. The seized property was valued at approximately ₹4.5 lakh.
Lalaguda police arrest exposes planned robbery using insider knowledge
According to police, prime accused Mahesh had earlier worked as a watchman at Arihant Sadan Apartment from October 2021 to May 2024 and was familiar with residents’ movements and security arrangements. After returning to his native village, he allegedly planned the robbery to fund personal expenses and roped in his associates.
On January 21, 2026, Mahesh and Pavan entered Flat No. 301 on the third floor of the apartment, threatened the complainant and forcibly removed gold ornaments worn by her. They later fled to Secunderabad, where Surendra was waiting, before travelling to Karnataka and dividing the stolen property.
Police said Mahesh was previously involved in two kidnapping cases registered at Karkhana police station in 2024, while Pavan was accused in a murder case reported in Bengaluru in 2019.
To solve the case, five special teams were formed by the Secunderabad Task Force and Lalaguda police. Based on technical surveillance and credible information, the accused were tracked and arrested within days of the offence.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of DCP Secunderabad Zone Rakshitha K. Murthy and DCP Task Force Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath, with support from senior officers and staff of the Secunderabad Task Force and Lalaguda police station.
