Joint cheque powers of deputy sarpanches remain intact
Hyderabad: The Telangana Panchayat Raj Department has dismissed rumours about the cancellation of joint cheque powers for deputy sarpanches. Officials said the circular being shared on social media is fake and has no legal standing.
The powers granted to deputy sarpanches under the 2018 Panchayat Raj Act remain unchanged. These powers allow them to co-sign cheques, making their role important in local financial decisions. The department confirmed that no order has been issued to withdraw these powers.

Newly elected sarpanches, deputy sarpanches, and ward members have officially taken charge in gram panchayats across the state. This has ended the rule of special officers, who were in charge until now. The system of joint cheque signing by sarpanches and their deputies continues as per law.
Officials urged citizens to ignore false messages on social media. They asked the public to rely only on official announcements from the department.
