Hyderabad Flood Mock Drill Tests Response Systems
Hyderabad: Authorities conducted a full-scale Hyderabad flood mock drill on Monday at the Necklace Road viewpoint to assess disaster preparedness and inter-agency coordination under the Incident Response System (IRS).
The Hyderabad district administration organised the exercise in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority. The drill simulated flood response in an urban setting and tested field readiness, operational efficiency, and coordination among multiple departments.

District Revenue Officer Venkatachary led the drill as Incident Commander and supervised ground-level operations. Deputy Collector Ravi served as Staging Area Manager and coordinated resource mobilisation and deployment.
Departments including revenue, police, fire services, medical and health, GHMC, irrigation, civil supplies, electricity, water supply, animal husbandry, youth services, HYDRAA, State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, and R&B participated in the exercise. Each agency performed predefined roles to mirror real-time flood response conditions.
The NDMA State Observer and Director General of Fire Services Vikram Singh Maan reviewed the drill and interacted with officers. They discussed flood mitigation measures for low-lying urban areas and stressed the need for clear role allocation under the Disaster Management Act.
Medical preparedness formed a key focus of the exercise. NDMA lead consultant Sudheer Bhal (retd) praised the disciplined execution and said such drills improve real-time emergency response. Later, he accompanied DG Vikram Singh Maan to KIMS Hospital to assess hospital preparedness.
At the hospital, officials reviewed emergency protocols, triage systems, and surge capacity. They also offered practical suggestions to strengthen medical response during urban flood emergencies.
