Five-day-old baby dies; kin allege doctors’ negligence, protest outside private hospital
Hyderabad: Relatives of a five-day-old newborn staged a protest on Thursday. They accused doctors and staff of a private hospital in Khammam of negligence that led to the baby’s death.
According to the family, Lavanya of Mustafanagar delivered the baby on December 30. After the infant began vomiting milk, relatives took him to a private hospital at Gandhi Chowk. They said doctors later told them the baby’s condition had worsened during treatment. Hospital staff then advised the family to shift the infant to a government hospital.
Relatives rushed the newborn to the Maternal and Child Health Centre at the Khammam District Government Hospital. Doctors there declared the baby dead on arrival.
Family members alleged that the private hospital failed to provide timely care. They cited the absence of doctors, lack of ventilator support and staff negligence. In protest, they placed the baby’s body outside the hospital and raised slogans. They demanded strict action against the management.
