Hyderabad: The National Testing Agency decided to tighten security in national-level entrance examinations by introducing facial biometric authentication and mandatory live photograph verification for candidates from 2026.

Officials confirmed that the new verification system would be implemented for key examinations such as JEE Main and NEET-UG. The move aimed to strengthen identity verification and curb impersonation and other examination malpractices.

According to officials, JEE (Main) scheduled for January 2026 would be the first examination to adopt the expanded biometric and live photo verification process. The system would verify candidates at multiple stages of the examination to ensure authenticity throughout the process.

Facial verification NEET exams to use AI tools

Hyderabad: Officials said Artificial Intelligence tools would support the facial verification NEET and JEE process to improve accuracy and monitoring. The Centre was also considering the gradual use of AI-based systems for other national-level competitive examinations in the future.

Sources said the government was examining the possibility of extending AI usage to evaluation processes at a later stage. Officials expressed confidence that the new system would enhance transparency and credibility in high-stakes entrance examinations conducted across the country.
