Earth Hour 2026 Hyderabad call urges citizens to switch off lights

Earth Hour 2026 Hyderabad, GHMC urges participation

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation issued a call for Earth Hour 2026 Hyderabad, urging citizens to switch off all non-essential lights on March 28 between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM.

GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan appealed to residents to participate in the global initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. He said, “Every small action counts. Let’s come together for a sustainable future.”

The civic body stated that the one-hour action forms part of the global “Give an Hour for Earth” campaign, which encourages individuals and institutions to contribute towards climate action through simple measures.

Officials highlighted that Hyderabad has been actively promoting eco-friendly initiatives. These include expanding green cover, improving urban biodiversity and strengthening sustainable waste management practices to build a climate-resilient city.

GHMC said the campaign emphasises the collective impact of small individual actions in conserving natural resources and reducing energy consumption. Therefore, citizens, organisations and institutions were encouraged to actively participate in the observance.

Authorities added that such initiatives support broader environmental goals and reinforce Hyderabad’s commitment to sustainable urban development. The civic body expects widespread participation across the city during the designated hour.
