Cyberabad New Year celebrations pass without major incidents

Cyberabad New Year celebrations remain incident-free

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police ensured peaceful New Year celebrations in 2026 through strict monitoring, heavy field deployment, and an intensive drunk driving enforcement drive across the commissionerate.

Senior police officers supervised arrangements throughout the night. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr. M. Ramesh, IPS, monitored the situation in real time from his office and issued continuous instructions to field officers.

Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Gajarao Bhupal, IPS, along with all law and order and traffic DCPs, remained on active field duty. Officers regulated traffic, managed crowd movement, and ensured safety at major junctions and party zones.

To prevent road accidents, police launched a special drunk driving drive from the night of December 31, 2025, to the morning of January 1, 2026. During the operation, 55 teams checked vehicles across Cyberabad and booked 928 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The vehicle-wise breakup included 695 two-wheelers, 31 three-wheelers, 199 four-wheelers, and three heavy vehicles. Police said they would seize the offenders’ driving licences and forward them to the respective RTAs for suspension under Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Drunk driving checks anchored Cyberabad New Year safety plan

Among those booked, 419 motorists recorded alcohol levels above 100 mg per 100 ml of blood. Another 35 exceeded 300 mg, while five registered extremely high levels beyond 500 mg. Police detected most cases within traffic police station limits such as Miyapur, RC Puram, Raidurgam, Gachibowli, Kukatpally, Medchal, Narsingi, Rajendranagar, and KPHB.

Due to sustained enforcement by Cyberabad Traffic Police, the commissionerate reported no major road accidents during the celebrations.

To ease congestion, the Society for Cyberabad Security Council, in coordination with police, operated a free shuttle service from midnight. The buses transported partygoers from major celebration hubs to nearby Metro stations and designated cab pick-up points. This effort cleared traffic on key stretches by 2 am.

Police thanked citizens for their cooperation and said they would continue the zero-tolerance approach toward drunk driving throughout the year. Officers also extended New Year greetings and urged the public to act responsibly and avoid risky behaviour on roads.
