Cyber crime awareness programme by Golconda Zone Police

Hyderabad: The Golconda Zone Police of Hyderabad City conducted a cyber crime awareness programme at Golconda Fort on January 24 as part of the “Jagrut Hyderabad – Surakshit Hyderabad” initiative to educate the public on cyber frauds, prevention methods and reporting mechanisms.

The programme was held within the limits of the Golconda Police Station and was attended by senior officers, including DCP Crimes V. Aravind Babu, DCP Golconda Zone G. Chandra Mohan, ACP Tolichowki Division Syed Fiaz, Golconda Police Station SHO P. Saidulu and DI P. Anjaiah, along with other officers and staff of the Golconda Zone.

Senior officials stressed that public awareness and timely reporting played a crucial role in preventing cyber crimes and reducing financial losses. Citizens were advised to immediately call the national cyber crime helpline Dial 1930 in case of cyber fraud, as early reporting increased the chances of freezing fraudulent transactions.

Officials also explained the use of the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, which enables citizens to report online financial frauds, social media crimes, identity theft and other cyber offences. The police highlighted the C-MITRA (Cyber Mitra) programme of the Hyderabad City Police, under which trained personnel assist citizens in converting complaints into FIRs without visiting police stations.

The Cyber Simbas initiative was also detailed, with officials stating that selected school and college students were trained as cyber safety ambassadors to spread awareness among peers. Police further advised the public to follow cyber safety precautions such as not sharing OTPs or passwords, avoiding suspicious links, downloading apps only from official sources and promptly verifying unfamiliar bank alerts.

In addition, officials spoke about the “Alive Arrive” programme focused on road safety, urging youth and students to follow traffic rules, avoid rash and drunken driving and ensure safe travel practices. The programme saw active participation from college students in the Golconda Zone, and participants took cyber safety and road safety pledges at the conclusion of the event.
