CP Hyderabad launches AI system for CAR duty allocation

Hyderabad: Commissioner of Police V. C. Sajjanar on Monday launched a generative AI-based system for CAR duty allocation, marking a major technological shift in how the City Armed Reserve manages personnel postings in Hyderabad.

The new system, developed in about two months, replaces the earlier manual process that police officials said was time-consuming, error-prone and often faced allegations of bias. By automating duty allotment, senior officers are expected to save significant administrative time and focus more on core policing responsibilities.

At the launch, the Commissioner said the initiative aimed to create a fair and motivated workforce by ensuring transparency and objectivity in postings. He stated that technology-driven governance was essential for modern policing in a growing metropolis like Hyderabad.

The AI platform processed 1,796 applications in its initial run and allotted 208 duties across categories such as Secretariat security, Chief Minister’s Office, Traffic duties and interceptor vehicle deployments.

CAR duty allocation system uses transparent AI model

Police officials said the system uses the Hungarian Method, a score-based algorithm, to ensure unbiased and transparent allocation without manual intervention. The selection process factors in objective parameters such as seniority, number of days spent in reserve, rewards earned, disciplinary record and health scores.

The platform also integrates OpenAI-based tools to instantly generate personalised official posting orders, eliminating routine paperwork. In addition, an AI-powered chat assistant enables CAR personnel to seek real-time clarification on duty allocation rules and outcomes, reducing the need for repeated training sessions.

During the programme, duty allotment orders generated through the AI system were formally distributed to police constables of the CAR Headquarters.

The Commissioner appreciated the contributions of Trinath Babu and Sunil Regula of Hansa Equity Partners LLP, who played a key role in implementing the system.

The event was attended by Additional Commissioners of Police M. Srinivas and Tafseer Iqbal, Joint Commissioners D. Joel Davis and Swetha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (CAR Headquarters) R. Venkateshwarlu, along with DCPs of all zones, other officers, staff and members of the implementation team.
