Brutal murder of beggar shocks Khammam district
Hyderabad: A Khammam murder case involving the brutal killing of a beggar came to light late, triggering shock and anger among residents after police released CCTV footage of the crime.
The incident occurred within the limits of the Two Town police station in Khammam. Police said an unidentified man attacked Rehman, a beggar who lived with his wife and young child, while he was resting in the early hours of December 29.
According to investigators, the attacker arrived on a motorcycle before launching a sudden and violent assault. The assailant repeatedly struck Rehman on the chest and throat in a sustained attack. CCTV footage showed that the accused continued to assault the victim even after he had died, before calmly leaving the spot.
The visuals, which police later made public, caused widespread outrage. Residents described the attacker as inhuman after watching the footage, which clearly captured the brutality of the crime.
Rehman’s wife subsequently lodged a complaint at the Two Town Police Station, following which police registered a case and began an investigation.
Khammam murder probe focuses on CCTV leads
Police officials said they were analysing CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the identity of the suspect. Special teams have been formed to track the motorcycle used in the crime and identify the accused at the earliest.
Officials added that efforts were underway to establish the motive behind the attack. They assured that the accused would be arrested soon and brought to justice.
The case has reignited concerns over safety of vulnerable people, including beggars, in urban areas of the district.
