Blood Moon 2025 dazzles India with longest eclipse

Blood Moon 2025

Hyderabad: Blood Moon 2025 offered India its longest total lunar eclipse in years, lasting 3 hours and 28 minutes on Sunday night. The eclipse started at 9:56 pm and concluded at 1:28 am, with Tamil Nadu the first to witness the celestial event.

The peak total eclipse lasted 82 minutes, from 11:00 pm until 12:23 am, as Earth aligned between the Sun and the Moon. This alignment gave the Moon a red-orange glow, recognized worldwide as a Blood Moon. Experts confirmed it was the most extended eclipse visible from India since 2022.

Blood Moon 2025 thrills global viewers

For the first time since July 2018, the eclipse was visible across all parts of India without equipment. Thousands viewed it directly, while others used telescopes for a sharper look.

The phenomenon stretched beyond India. Asia, Australia, and parts of Europe and Africa also witnessed Blood Moon 2025. Astronomers highlighted Asia and Australia as prime locations due to the Moon’s high elevation. Europe and Africa offered shorter views during moonrise.

Timings varied globally. Bangkok reported 12:30 am to 1:52 am. Beijing and Hong Kong saw the eclipse between 1:30 am and 2:52 am. Tokyo experienced it from 2:30 am to 3:52 am, while Sydney’s skies displayed it between 3:30 am and 4:52 am.
