Hyderabad: A woman lost 16 tolas of gold jewellery while travelling in an APSRTC bus in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, triggering an emergency police search.

According to information received, the woman, identified as Shabana, boarded an APSRTC bus from Anantapur to Kadiri carrying gold jewellery weighing 16 tolas. During the journey, she attempted to take out her Aadhaar card from her bag to purchase a ticket. At that moment, she noticed that the jewellery kept inside the bag was missing.

Shocked by the discovery, the woman immediately alerted the police. Acting swiftly, police stopped the bus near the Anantapur Collectorate and conducted a thorough search of all passengers. Officers also carried out a complete inspection of the bus to trace the missing valuables.

APSRTC bus theft probe launched after jewellery goes missing

Despite an extensive search operation, the police failed to recover the gold jewellery. Following the unsuccessful search, the distressed woman broke down and cried at the spot. Police officials consoled her and assured her of a detailed investigation.

The police registered a case and began further inquiry to determine how the jewellery went missing during the bus journey. Officials said they were examining possible theft angles and questioning passengers as part of the probe.
