Hyderabad: A sessions court awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment to a man in a rape intimidation case after finding him guilty under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC.

The XIII Additional District and Sessions Court at L.B. Nagar, presided over by Judge Smt. M. Vani, delivered the verdict following a full trial. The prosecution presented evidence that established the charges against the accused, Somashila Mahender (40), a resident of NTR Nagar, Mailardevpally.

The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,100 on the accused. In addition, it directed authorities to pay ₹3,00,000 as compensation to the victim.

According to case records, the incident occurred on June 15, 2018. The accused entered the victim’s house under the pretext of asking for food. He found her alone, locked the door, and raped her. He later threatened to kill her if she disclosed the assault.

Key facts in rape intimidation case trial

During the trial, the prosecution outlined the sequence of events and submitted evidence to support the charges. The court accepted the evidence and concluded that the accused committed both rape and criminal intimidation.

The judgment came in connection with a case registered at Mailardevpally Police Station under Crime No. 541/2018 and Sessions Case No. 482/2019. The court held that the threats issued after the assault constituted criminal intimidation, reinforcing the gravity of the offence.

The ruling underlined the seriousness of offences involving sexual violence and threats. It also emphasised the role of compensation in supporting victims after such crimes.
